Duncan Smithson

Based in Chicago, Duncan Smithson is a Senior Director in WTW's HR M&A group with 25 years of M&A and international consulting experience. Duncan provides HR M&A consulting advice to a wide range of corporate and private equity firms and has extensive experience of all deal stages from pre-deal strategic planning, through due diligence, to do-by-close and post-acquisition integration, especially in the context of multinational mergers and acquisitions.

Duncan joined WTW's in Chicago in 2017, having previously spent 19 years with another global HR consulting firm. Duncan has worked in the USA, the UK, South Africa and on assignment in Singapore.

Duncan is a qualified actuary, and holds degrees in Economics and Mathematical Statistics, as well as the Diploma in International Employee Benefits. He is a regular speaker at conferences and training courses, and has written or co-written several articles on a range of issues, including most recently articles for The Deal magazine on the use of labor force big data in M&A entitled “Looking at Labor – Workforce Analytics in M&A”, and for The M&A Journal on risks in cross-border M&A entitled “Drivers of Deal Success in Global M&A”.
